The biographical film of Sam Manekshaw, the first Marshal of India, is about him. He was a Persian fire worshipper and was born into a family of doctors in the British Indian state of Punjab. His father and two brothers were both doctors, but he chose to join the military out of rebellion and was admitted to the British Indian Military Academy. During World War II, he fought against the Japanese army in Myanmar and made military achievements. He was seriously injured and later obtained the rank of brigadier general before being sent to Australia. However, after India gained independence, he returned to his home country to join the Indian army and held various positions including Military Technical Director, Military Staff College, Chief of General Staff, etc. He became India's first Marshal on January 1, 1973. He always believed that it was necessary to reform the Indian military, form a unified command system, rather than being organized according to tribes, and opposed politicians interfering in military affairs, which led to conflicts with the ruling National Congress Party. The latter suspected that he had the ambition of military dictatorship and demoted and monitored him. Therefore, Manekshaw was absent in the 1962 Sino Indian conflict, and the Indian army suffered a disastrous defeat. Later, Manekshaw was appointed as the eighth Chief of General Staff and served as the overall commander in the third Indo Pakistani War in 1971, promoting Bangladesh's independence. However, due to differences in military philosophy with the ruling party and the preferential treatment of Pakistani prisoners of war, he was suspected of disloyalty. After obtaining the rank of Marshal in 1973, he was immediately retired and even owed his retirement pension for a long time without receiving a penny. In 2007, Indian President Kalam met with Manekshaw and gave him a check of 13 million rupees (approximately 230000 US dollars) - his pension was overdue for 30 years. In 2008, Manekshaw passed away.
